Refer-a-Friend

A resume is "a staunch friend who speaks well of you and can gain you entrance into

undreamed of opportunities... It is your most powerful advocate." Martin John Yate

The job market is more ruthless than ever, so you need to be well-armed to beat the competition. A well-written resume is your first impression to an employer who receives hundreds to thousands of applications each week.  Think of it as a casting call where 500 people are lined up on the sidewalk.  Ten get called back for an interview, five for a second ...but only one gets the job.

It's my job to weed out trivial details, and highlight your strengths and accomplishments.  I will delve into your past, flesh out the details, and make you invaluable to your next employer.  You have diamonds in your history, and as a resume archaeologist it's my responsibility to mine them.

Cover Letter:

You should ALWAYS include a cover letter.  Always!!!  Don't even think about sending in a resume with a sticky note, a generic letter, a one-liner stating "Enclosed please find my resume," or without a cover letter (a sure-fire File 13 [trashcan] elimination).

What I will need:

  • All resumes past and present that show your employment history (from which I will compile follow-up questions if necessary).
  • Your contact information (address; phone number that is not your current business and preferably one with voicemail; e-mail).
  • The position description  for which you're applying (imperative, as we will utilize catch words or phrases for database search purposes).
  • Any technical, educational degrees/awards, special skills, professional affiliations that may be of interest to your employer.
  • Any specific terminology to enhance your credibility.
  • Any decision-making and/or problem-solving skills, track records, etc.
  • Personal interests and skills (i.e., photography, woodworking, writing, etc.) ONLY if applicable to new position.
  • References (at least five business-related only; if your firm wants personal references, that will be up to you to provide them).
  • Addresses of potential employers for cover letters (if requested).
  • Will you want it printed or on a CD, or e-mailed?
  • I will contact you if further details are needed.
